Irish Military Intelligence broke off its links with the IRA and decided to have to have them killed after the murder of a young soldier and trainee Garda at Derrada Wood,Ballinamore,Co. Leitrim in September 1983. Before that event, part-time Irish soldiers had trained the Provisionals. Afterwards the IRA turned slowly but surely back to its original type.
